萨格勒布解放后的一天晚上，玛蒂尔德·伊万肯奇因为丈夫勒万·伊万肯奇与德国工程师迪特里奇·菲特勒常有往来的缘故，被两名士兵带到了贝塔尔中尉的办公室。事实上，勒万·伊万肯奇是一位为民族解放而献身的地下工作者，而菲特勒只是他在莱比锡大学念书时的同学，两个人之间根本不存在什么与“占领军合作”的关系。问题调查清楚后，玛蒂尔德回到了自己的公寓。
